Verbier is where serious skiing meets serious style. Sitting above the Rhône valley, it's the gateway to the vast 4 Vallées and one of the world's great off-piste destinations - the Freeride World Tour finals are held on its Bec des Rosses. It's sunny, sporty and cosmopolitan, with an upmarket après scene and a cool international crowd. Best for confident skiers, but the sunny Savoleyres side keeps intermediates and beginners very happy too.

⛷The skiing
Verbier is the hub of the 4 Vallées - around 410km linking Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, La Tzoumaz and Thyon. The glacier at Mont Fort (3,330m) is the high point, and the resort is legendary for its off-piste: the runs down from Tortin and Mont Gelé, the Vallon d'Arbi and countless guided lines. On-piste, the sunny Savoleyres sector is an underrated cruise, and there's plenty of gentle terrain to build up to the big stuff.
- Mont Fortthe glacier at 3,330m - the highest point and huge views.
- Savoleyressunny, quieter cruising that most people overlook.
- Tortin & Mont Geléiconic off-piste - take a guide and make a morning of it.

The Louk tipIf you can ski off-piste, book a mountain guide for a morning - Verbier's backcountry is the whole point. If not, sunny Savoleyres is the quiet cruising gem everyone forgets about.
