Sölden is a big, buzzy resort in Austria's Ötztal, and its trump card is snow: it has two glaciers and lifts to over 3,300m, so it opens early, closes late and is about as snow-sure as skiing gets. The skiing is high and wide with three 3,000m peaks, the après is loud and legendary, and the James Bond film locations (and the ice Q restaurant) add a dash of glamour. A top pick for a snow-hungry, party-minded group.

⛷The skiing

Sölden's skiing is high and reliable, spread across three 3,000m peaks and two glaciers (Rettenbach and Tiefenbach) linked by a tunnel. There's a World Cup downhill, wide open cruising up top, and a decent spread for all abilities - though beginners are better off starting on the mid-mountain nursery areas rather than in the steeper valley. The Big 3 Rallye links the three high viewing platforms in a day.

🚁Getting there

Sölden is easy from Innsbruck (around 1.25 hours), with Munich and Salzburg both around 2.5. Transfers run up the Ötztal from Innsbruck; the nearest train station is Ötztal Bahnhof, then a bus or transfer up the valley.
