Livigno sits at 1,816m in a remote valley near the Swiss border, which gives it a long, snow-sure season and its nickname, 'Little Tibet'. It's also a duty-free zone, so everything from fuel to sunglasses to après is remarkably cheap - and the food and lodging are brilliant value. The skiing spreads up both sides of a long, sunny valley, with great beginner terrain and one of the best snow parks in Europe. A top pick for value-minded groups and families.

⛷The skiing
Livigno's pistes climb both sides of the valley - the sunny Mottolino side and the Carosello 3000 side - linked by an efficient (and free) ski-bus. The altitude keeps the snow superb, and there's a great spread for everyone: gentle, wide beginner runs, long intermediate cruisers, and a world-class snow park that hosts pro freestyle events. It's rarely crowded, and the value is unbeatable.

The Louk tipIt's duty-free, so fill the car with fuel and stock up on sunglasses, watches and après essentials while you're here. The two mountain sides are linked by a free ski-bus - use it rather than walking.

🚁Getting there
Livigno is remote, which is the price of that snow and value. The nearest airports are Bergamo and Milan (around 3–3.5 hours) and Innsbruck (~2.5hr over the passes). Transfers come in via the Foscagno pass or, in deep winter, the Munt la Schera tunnel from Switzerland.
