Ischgl is the Alps' great party resort - but that reputation undersells the skiing. The Silvretta Arena is a huge, high, snow-sure area of beautifully groomed intermediate cruising, and you can ski across the border to duty-free Samnaun in Switzerland. It's a slick, upmarket village of five-star hotels and slope-side umbrella bars, famous for its season-opening and closing concerts. If your group wants big miles by day and a proper party by night, this is the one.

⛷The skiing

The Silvretta Arena is one of the best-groomed, most snow-sure areas in the Alps - around 240km of mostly high, wide, intermediate cruising with barely a tree in sight. It links Ischgl with duty-free Samnaun over the Swiss border, so you can ski between countries and pick up a bargain on the way. There's little for absolute beginners in the village itself, but confident intermediates are in heaven, and there's off-piste and the odd steep for experts.

The Louk tip

Ischgl's après starts on the mountain in the afternoon (Paznauner Taja, Trofana Alm) and rolls into the village - so ski to the bottom before you commit. And if your dates line up with a season concert, plan around it.

🚁Getting there

The nearest airport is Innsbruck (around 1.5 hours), with Zurich and Friedrichshafen both around two to 2.5. Transfers run up the Paznaun valley; the nearest train station is Landeck-Zams, then a short bus or transfer to Ischgl.
