⛷The skiing

Cervinia's slopes are high, sunny and unusually gentle - long, wide, well-groomed runs that make it one of the best beginner and early-intermediate resorts in the Alps. Up top, the glacier links over the border to Zermatt (the combined Matterhorn Ski Paradise is ~360km), so strong skiers can spend a day in Switzerland and ski home. Snow reliability is superb thanks to the altitude.

The Louk tip

If you ski over to Zermatt, keep a close eye on the last lift back - miss it and it's a long, expensive taxi round through the valleys. Otherwise, revel in those gentle top-to-bottom cruisers with the Matterhorn overhead.

🚁Getting there

Cervinia is easiest from Italy: Turin is about two hours and Milan around 2.5, with Geneva also around 2.5 over the border. Transfers run up the Valtournenche valley; a hire car gives flexibility for exploring the Aosta Valley.
